Thank You Volunteers!

With less than 48 hours notification and temperatures only slightly above freezing, 13 volunteers showed up on Sunday, December 7th clearing Penns Wood Trail in less than two hours! Middle school students, students from Pottsgrove High School Spark the Wave Club, neighbors and a Township Commissioner all joined in to make short work of a project that would have cost the Arboretum a significant amount of money if we had to pay for it. 11/12/14  Painting begins on the Historic House Work has begun to scrape and prime the old wooden siding and prepare it for a coat of paint.  It will take many hours of work, but eventually the outside will be protected again after 20 years of abuse from the weather! Save Save Save

Family Night Hike

Family Night Hike

An exciting event last night in Upper Pottsgrove. About 350 people showed up for a Night Hike at the Althouse Arboretum. There were games, storytelling, a scavenger hunt, glow stick-lit trails, snacks, face and pumpkin painting, a marshmallow roast, and prizes for every child. Some children came in costumes, all came with flashlights to explore and find what awaited them. Our House

Our House

Progress…. Thanks to volunteers from St. Luke Lutheran Church. First ones to work on the house. A day of much-appreciated scrapping and painting. The house when completed will have offices upstairs for the SAVE Foundation (GreenAllies) which runs all of the programs and activities for the Arboretum and a community meeting place downstairs for visitors to enjoy. Ok, so you can’t see them, but there are honeybees living behind the external wood of our house! (Right up there in the corner.) Estimates put the hive population at over 50,000 bees! Our brave volunteer (and Board Member) Andy has come prepared. He listens to the walls to locate them. So what are we going to do?
