Golden Groundsel

Golden Groundsel

A new friend recently gave me a few of these plants from her property. Packera obovata is a native plant that does well in shade to partly sunny areas. The plants spread to form a thick green ground cover from which the bright yellow flowers stand out. The photos here show my starter colony under the shade of a dogwood tree.  The ones on the left are from a colony already established. The link below from Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center lists even more benefits such as being a nectar source for native bees and butterflies and the fact that this plant is deer resistant.

This plant will be offered at the Native Plant and More Sale at Althouse Arboretum on the Saturday before Mother’s Day. Come out and support the Althouse Arboretum and the wonderful work of Green Allies! The Althouse Arboretum address is 1794 Gilbertsville Road, Pottstown, PA 19464.
